2 Two-List Scheme with Personalized Electronic Program Guide for Fast IPTV Navigation Timothy Adeliyi

The adoption of the shift from one-way push-based traditional media broadcasting to an interactive pull-based Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service has seen significant growth in recent years due to the vast number of television (TV) channels and applications it provides. Despite the increase in the deployment of the IPTV systems around the world, channel switching a major functionality in every TV system needs further improvement. Zapping delay in IPTV, a delay that occurs during channel switching brings a major setback to the IPTV system, especially when compared with the traditional television services. A new fast channel navigation framework in IPTV was proposed in achieving a drastic zapping delay reduction during channel switching. Instead of analyzing thebehavior of channels, switching and predicting channels based on behavior analysis, the proposed approach will enable subscribers to choose their favorite channels from a different genre, into the hot and cold channel list, where hot channels are channels regularly viewed by the subscriber and cold channels are channels not viewed by subscribers. This approach saves subscribers a painstaking amount of time in searching for the desired channel to watch. This will be effective in reducing zapping delay when compared with several state-of-the-art approaches.

3 Teacher-Student Rapport and Self-efficacy as Exponents of Affective learning Outcome in Commerce Durowoju E. O., Onuka A.O.U and Ally Oluchi

This study examined the influence of teacher-student rapport and self efficacy on affective outcome (attitude to learning) in Commerce. The study adopted ex-post facto of survey research design. The target population for this study comprised all the senior secondary school II students Economics in Ibadan. Multi-stage sampling technique was used in the study. Two instruments tagged “Teacher-student Rapport and Self-efficacy Questionnaire (TRSQ) and Students’ Attitude to Learning Commerce Scale (SALCS) were developed by the researchers for data generation. The reliability coefficients of these instruments using Cronbach Alpha were 0.70 and 0.80 respectively. Data were analysed using inferential statistics. Hypotheses 1 and 2 were tested using Pearson Moment Correlation while hypothesis 3 was tested using Multiple Regression. The results revealed that there was significant relationship between teacher-student rapport and students’ affective (attitude to learning) outcome in Commerce; there was significant relationship between self-efficacy and students’ affective (attitude to learning) outcome in Commerce; and that there was joint relationship among teacher-students’ rapport, self efficacy and students’ affective (attitude to learning) outcome in Commerce. It was recommended that teachers should take it upon themselves to help their students develop high level of self-efficacy by providing reinforcement such aspraise, reward and encouragement to them and that teachers should promote productive teacher-student rapport by reinforcing positive behaviour, build a positive self-image by identifying and recognizing the strengths and weaknesses of each student as well as his/her distinctive qualities.

4 Revigorating Supervisions in the Teaching and Learning of Cultural Values as Panacea for Moral Decadence in African Society Dr. A. A. ADEDIRAN and DR. T. E. DORGU

Cultural values are complex whole of man’s acquisition of knowledge, morals, belief, art, custom, and technology which are transmitted from generations to generations. Cultural values that can bring good moral standard in any society include discipline, integrity, and dignity of labour, social justice, religious tolerance, self reliance and patriotism. All these values are clearly spelt out as measures to ensure good moral standard of people in any society. Moral values are good, worthwhile, positive attributes, and attitudes such as patience, generosity, kindness, love and compassion. They are principles and standards which determine whether certain actions are right or wrong. This paper is advancing that meaningful modernism which can be attained not by jettisoning very important cultural values of the people but making such values the fulcrum of our developmental programmes. The vacuum created by the neglect and non inculcation of our cultural ethics, values and practice in the children, especially being taken over by foreign cultural variants which have little or no relevance in our cultural milieu and which have caused a disconnection in our total wellbeing and a dislocation of values and goals. This paper discusses some of ideals and clarifications of our peculiar values as yardsticks for developmental programme as a way of getting Africans back to the path of progress, peacefulness, accountability, unity and global respectability. The paper recommends that a well drawn out action plan and time frame should be clearly stated to assist in assessing the level of implementation of the programme for cultural values teaching and learning in African schools

5 Policies and Strategies for the Improvement of Mathematics Teaching and Learning at the Senior Secondary School (SSS) Level Onabanjo Comfort Folake (ph.d), Iyawe Omoruyi J. P., Odunuga Joseph Bamidele and Bamgbaye Victor Oladayo

Mathematics is a subject meant to be enjoyed if properly handled by the teacher (teaching) and the students (learning). Nigerian schools have not been able to achieve hundred percent (100%) rate of success in mathematics in both external and internal examinations over the years due to some reasons (Jegede, 2003; Onabanjo, 2007). However, many researchers have proved some factors to be responsible for this among which are teaching and learning strategies, governmental factor, environmental factors and others. This paper therefore focuses on policies and strategies for the improvement of mathematics teaching and learning at the Senior Secondary School (SSS) level. Various policies and strategies were discussed which if put into practice continuously will improve the teaching learning situation of mathematics at the SSS level and will yield better results. Conclusion and recommendation were thereafter made.

6 Evaluation of Some Teacher Factors as Correlates of Attitudes to the Teaching of Basic Science Mosunmola A. Amusan Ph.D

In evaluating the causes of low enrollment in science and science related courses at the tertiary education level, researchers have found teacher factors to be relevant. However, specific teacher factors affecting teacher attitude have not been conclusively and consistently arrived at. This study therefore sought to find out how some teacher factors affect teachers’ attitude to teaching Basic Science (BS) since it is opined that teachers’ positive attitude to teaching will lead to improved achievement. The composite and relative contribution of some teacher factors; qualification, age, gender and experience on their attitudes to teaching Basic Science as a subject was investigated. Multistage sampling method was used to obtain the study sample of 300 Basic School teachers as respondents. An instrument adapted by the researcher was used for data collection, this was re-validated with an internal consistency of 0.82 (83%). A research question was answered and one hypothesis tested. Data collected were analysed using frequency counts, percentages and regression statistics. Findings of the study reveal that the majority of the teachers are negatively predisposed to teaching BS. Also, of all the four independent variables, only gender has a significant relative contribution (0.228) to the attitudes of the BS teachers.

7 Data Security in the Modern Age: An Application and Implementation of Data Encryption and Decryption Wasiu Opeyemi Oduola, Ekele Asonye, Emmanuel Okereke and Victoria A. Bamgbose

The explosive growth of data in the Internet and digital age and the exponential demands for mobile devices, smart devices, wireless and wired sensors, social networks, personalized healthcare and other data-centric technologies has permeated through every facets of our personal, educational, professional, corporate and government lives. The ubiquity of data has resulted into an increasing number of data breaches and security vulnerabilities in data storage worldwide. Thus, there is a heightened effort globally to strengthen the security of data storage and data sharing to protect mankind against the malicious adversaries intending to tamper with the data, pose a threat to the freedom of information and individual and collective privacy. This study therefore focuses on the design and implementation of a data decryption and encryption algorithmic module using the field programmable gate array (FPGA) NEXYS 2 board and Xilinx Integrated Synthesis Environment (ISE) 14.6 development tool kit. The design is applicable in instances where two or more parties exchange private and confidential information by helping to eliminate the possibility of eavesdropping or attack from a malicious adversary.
