STRATOSPHERIC OZONE DEPLETION: A BANE TO ACHIEVING GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL COMFORT | Oladokun Tajudeen Ademola and Olaniyi, Oladiran Paul | Ozone, a component of the earth's atmosphere is having 0.00006 percent of the dry atmosphere and it is mostly located in the stratosphere. Its location in the second layer of the atmosphere is meant to screen out one of the electromagnetic waves known as ultraviolet ray which is a short wave radiation heating up the earth's surface. The data were collected through literature search, hence, it is theoretical in nature. It is meant to conceptualize ozone, ozone depletion; identify causes of ozone depletion and to proffer what could be the proper control measures. The ineffectiveness of ozone shield to perform the primary function of protecting both biotic and abiotic components of the natural ecosystem from the scorching effects of the ultraviolet ray due to human activities such as urbanization, industrialization that cause pollution implies the destruction of valuable components of the earth's total ecological systems and the manifestation of its consequential outcomes. It is revealed that ozone depletion could trigger rising earth's temperature, reduction in crops' yields, disruption of marine food chain, inhibition of photosynthesis, skin cancer, blindness, genetic changes, and human immune systems' impairment among others. To curb this bane from its multiplier effects, it is suggested that the use of ozone friendly materials should be embraced in the production of products by industries. People should be educated on how best to interact with their biophysical environment to curb excessive pollution of man's environment.

INFLUENCE OF READING HABITS ON NON-SCIENCE PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS' INTEREST AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCES IN GENERAL SCIENCE EDUCATION IN FEDERAL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION ABEOKUTA | Eniayewu Abiodun Ayodeji, Rojugbokan Rachel Oluwatoyin and Amuda Tajudeen Gbenga | This study has the objective of determining the influence of reading habits of students studying arts and social science education at the federal college of education Abeokuta on their interest and academic performance in general science education courses. To that end, data of questionnaires applied to a total of 247 students have been analysed along with their scores in a general science education course at the school, and the results showed a weak statistically significant weak correlation between interest in science materials and reading habit of reading science materials and frequency of reading generally at p-value .0001 and .021 (p<.05) respectively while there was no significant correlation between academic performance in general science education courses and all parameter of reading habit. Also, there is no statistically difference in the interest of both male and female respondents interest in general science education reading materials and classes, neither was there a significant difference in the general science readings and interest in general science materials and classes among male and female non-science major pre-service teachers. Majority of the students have not read any type of material in the academic session at hand, thus their academic performance in general science education course did not correlate with their reading habit. It was recommended that there should be courses that will mandate students in the higher institution especially in the colleges of education to read wide range of materials within and outside their area of specialization to gain knowledge and also improve their reading ability.

ENHANCING PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN'S LEARNING THROUGH THEIR NEEDS AND INTERESTS: EDUCATIONAL IMPLICATIONS | Akande Oluwadare | It is no longer debate on idea that children who attend Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC)s are more likely to be successful when they start school than children who do not. Children's readiness for school is frequently cited among governments' motives for this investment in the early years sector. How prepare are children continues to be a keenly debated political question in international forums where early child development seems to be increasingly perceived as a preparation for primary school. Moreover, the level of interest and needs of preschool children have to be much more considered as major factors for readiness of pre-school children in learning and total development, especially in preparing them for primary school education. This paper therefore tends taken a keen look into the concepts of learning, principles in Pre-School Child related activities, i.e their education, their needs and interests that are said to enhance children's total development of children through pre-primary education facilities.

EFFECTS OF HEALTH EDUCATION INTERVENTION ON FAMILY VIOLENCE VICTIMS RESPONSE AND REPORTING SYSTEM IN OGUN STATE NIGERIA | Adenuga, Emmanuel AkinyemiPh.D, Adegbite Bola Saidat and Kalesanwo, Olufemi O. | The failure of human relationship leads to family violence. On daily basis, public frowns at people violating the safety right of their family members. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of Health Education Intervention on family violence victim`s response and reporting system in Ogun State. The study is experimental with the participants randomly assigned to control and experimental groups. The study had 120 participants drawn through a multi-stage sampling procedure. The instruments used were Hurt, Insult, Threat and Scream (HITS) Instrument (r = 0.68), Family APGAR (r = 0.89) and Health Education Intervention Package named Family Violence Victim`s Response And Reporting Education (FamVRARE). Four (4) research questions raised were answered with descriptive statistics of frequency counts, percentages, mean and standard deviation scores while three hypotheses formulated were tested with t-test, and the Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) at 0.05 level of significance. Results revealed, amongst others, that Health Education Intervention (HEI) had significant effect on family violence victim`s response and reporting system (t = 15.852, p < 0.05). The main effect of treatment was significant (F (1, 41) = 231.459, P < 0.05), MCA shows a grand mean of 28.54, the treatment group obtained higher adjusted post-test mean score of 36.40 (i.e. 28.54+7.86) than that of the control group of 20.68 (i.e. 28.54-7.86). Based on the findings, it was concluded that Health Education Intervention had significant impact on family violence victim`s response and reporting system. It was recommended that family violence safety officers should be trained by the government and the relevant agencies. Family violence safety unit of the police force should be established to manage family violence in the state while access to such unit at the community is made easy. Family violence safety management should be included in the health education curriculum at all levels of education.

COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF PROTEIN PROFILES AND CARCASS QUALITY TRAITS OF SOME RABBIT GENOTYPES IN SOUTH-WESTERN NIGERIA | Akanni, K.T. | A study on protein profiles and carcass quality traits was conducted using four purebred rabbits comprising New Zealand White (NZW), Chinchilla (CHL), Zealand Red (NZR) and the Cinnamon(CNM) in a diallele crossbreeding experiment that generated 16 genotypes involving four straight breeds and 12 crossbreds respectively. The performance of these rabbit genotypes was monitored to evaluate the crossbreeding effect on blood protein and carcass traits. Genotypes significantly (P<0.05) affected blood protein studied in which better performances were recorded in Cinnamon (CNM), New Zealand Red (NZR)and their crosses. Carcass quality traits also followed a similar pattern as obtained in blood proteins. The CNM, NZR and their cross recorded high live weight with higher percentage dressed weight due to high level of means of meat to bone ratio (61:24%) coupled with lowest percentage of Gastro Intestinal Tract (GIT) which statistically (P<0.05) accounted for less than 15% of its total carcass yield. The study therefore underscored the importance of crossbreeding effect in improving the protein and the carcass yield in rabbits, for sustainable livestock development in Africa.

BREEDING AND EVALUATION OF CHOLESTEROL CONTENTS OF PURE AND CROSBRED RABBITS RAISED IN HUMID CLIMATE | Akanni, K. T. , Akinnusi F.A. O. and Adebambo Olufunmilayo | The study was conducted using four purebred rabbits comprising New Zealand White (NZW), Chinchilla (CHL), Zealand Red (NZR) and the Beveren (BVN) through a diallele crossbreeding experiment that generated 16 genotypes involving four straight breeds and 12 crossbreds respectively. The crossbreeding program of these rabbit genotypes was monitored to evaluate the breeding effect on productive potentials in terms of average litter size (ALZ) average litter weight (ALW) and cholesterol content respectively. Genotypes significantly (P<0.05) affected all productive traits in which better performances were recorded in BVN, NZR and their crosses than the original parents, with the corresponding values of 7.85±0.07g, 8.87±0.03g, 7.90±0.08g, 8.00±0.04g, 8.93±0.03g, 8.96±0.00g. The litter weight, tissue and serum Cholesterol contents also followed similar pattern as obtained in litter size. Significant (P<0.05) differences in the cholesterol content among the various rabbit genetic groups implies that cholesterol content to large extent is a function of genetic variability. The study therefore underscored the importance of crossbreeding effect on the productive potentials and nutritive of rabbits for sustainable livestock development in Africa.

AN EXPLORATION OF CODE SWITCHING IN DAREY ART ALADE'S SONGS | Oni-Afolabi Olusola Deborah, Oni Afolabi Ajibola PhD | This paper explores code switching as a sociolinguistic medium in Darey Art Alade's songs. The thesis examines why code switching is deployed in the selected songs. Moreover, against the belief that the utilisation of code switching is a sign of language deficiency or incompetence in either of the languages under use, this work affirms that code switching is employed as a strong sociolinguistic tool to achieve some purposes, it is a deliberate language choice by language users to achieve a particular goal, for instance: to communicate meaning; for identity brand, to accommodate more audience, for cultural reasons- to communicate a certain culture to the world. The linguistic data is selected purposefully using two popular songs from Darey Art Alade in which code switching is utilized. Consequently, the motivation for the study is to demonstrate that code switching enables second language users to be creative in their use of languages. The deployment of code switching for some effects reflects the multilingual nature of Nigeria.
